Modern people do not change their preference for tea tasting and
listening to Qin music. The ritual tea ceremony performance also
needs Qin musicians to play Qin to create a tea ceremony atmosphere.
TEA’S
SMOKE AND
QIN’S RHYME
L u Yu’s book Tea Classic records that “the drinking of tea originated
from Shennong (legendary god of farming)”, and there is also the
legend of Shennong making Qin (seven-stringed Chinese zither). The
two cultures with profound historical heritage may have been inex-
tricably linked from the beginning. The melody of Qin is deep and can quiet the
heart, the taste of tea is bitter but can clear the mind, and playing Qin and drinking
tea has always been a portrayal of the cultural life of the ancients and the self-cul-
tivation of literati and officials.
