3 Grinders everywhere
Host Milano is the biggest hospitality exhibition in Europe and the
main arena for coffee companies to present their new ideas. This
year everyone’s attention was attracted by the amount of new grind-
ers, each of them has new features like more precise grinding, ability to grind
coffee for espresso and filter using the same grinder or grinding several types of
coffee at once, creating your own blend. For example, Sanremo presented their
new Revo 1 and Revo 3, the only difference between the two is the number of
coffee hoppers. The grinders have pre-wighting system to make grinding more
accurate and you can also preset the sizing and save it in on board memory of the
machine. Moreover, you can use manual bypass that allows individual doses of
different coffee separate from main hopper. One more impressive grinder this time
was Mythos II by Victoria Arduino, the machine ensures the maximum density
and accuracy so that the brew ratio is always consistent, even if you change the
granulometry, the dose remains unchanged. 4
Mahlkönig presented K30 Twin 2.0 for fresh grinding “on demand” for
espresso and filter coffee with individually engineered built-in grinders for each
brewing method. The grinder combines compact design, approved functional- Coffee on the go
ity and innovative in a double grinder, that bring you the best quality grind.
Moreover, K30 has a log file that records operational status: coffee consumption,
grammage and error detection. While it is hard to see on
the streets of Milan anyone car-
rying a coffee to-go, this time
HostMilano showed some spe-
cial equipment that can prepare
coffee for you anywhere. The
main idea is that you will prepare
this coffee out of a capsule,
which will save you some time
and make the process convenient
even when outside.

Specialty coffee is growing
Even though Italy has been always seen as a traditional market for coffee,
Host Milano 2017 showed us that specialty coffee in this espresso-drinking
country still gets its way. Fiera Milano had couple of booths dedicated to our
beloved third wave coffee, where people could try new ways of brewing coffee
as well as new beans. According to Euromotion, in 2016, coffee in Italy saw
retail volume sales decline by 2% but value sales rise by 2% in current terms.
Value growth can be largely attributed to a consumer shift towards more ex-
pensive products, such as fresh ground coffee pods. even though, specialty
coffee might not be on its peak right now in Italy, it is definitely a good sign for
third wave of coffee that Italian consumer tends to choose higher quality coffee
and with several specialty coffee shops around each big city in Italy it might
start making people understand the beauty of high-end specialty coffee.
