When ice cream was first invented centuries ago, it was only served to
nobles in shiny bowls and cups. The iced treats became much more avail-
able to the general public at the turn of the 20th century when people
could buy it at the parlors and eat at sites. Sometimes, it would be wrapped
in waxed paper for takeaway, but the packaging was far from ideal, and
soon the ice would melt. Everything eventually changed in the 1930s when
mechanical refrigeration appeared. This allowed people to store ice cream
at home. From then on, the iced dessert has been enjoyed by people world-
wide in small cartons. Today, ice cream has become one of the most liked
desserts in the world. Merely in the US, people consume over 1 million
gallons of ice cream a year, according to the international dairy food as-
sociation. The market for ice cream packaging has grown along. A recent
report by the marketing research firm Future Market Insights indicates
that the global ice cream packaging market size is likely to reach US$
1,215.6 Mn by the end of 2032.
