                                                                                                                                              coffee beans to a fine consistency to enjoy the delicious drink they
                                                                                                                                              had discovered. It is undeniable grinding is one of the, if not the, key
                                                                                                                                              steps in unlocking the wonderful complex flavors found in coffee. As
                                                                                                                                     the authors of The Blue Bottle Craft of Coffee once wrote, “Any barista will tell
                                                                                                                                     you that the single most important piece of gear in the espresso-making chain is
                                                                                                                                     the grinder. So buy your grinder first.”

                                                                                                                                     Third  wave  coffee  is  a  recent  movement  in  the  coffee  industry  that  focuses  on
                                                                                                                                     quality in coffee in order to create the ultimate taste experience for consumers.
                                                                                                                                     As a result of the movement, consumers have come to expect a higher standard
                                                                                                                                     than in the last decades when it comes both to coffee quality and coffee-making.
                                                                                                                                     As  the  standard  and  knowledge  in  coffee-making  steadily  increased  in  the  past
                                                                                                                                     decade, so did grinder technology which has evolved to keep up and to help con-
                                                                                                                                     sumers achieve better coffee at home. According to Technavio, a technology re-
                                                                                                                                     search and consulting firm, the global home coffee grinder market was projected
                                                                                                                                     to grow at a CAGR of close to 6 percent during the period 2018-2022. During that
                                                                                                                                     period,  more than  a  handful  of  startups  have  begun  developing new  innovative
                                                                                                                                     coffee grinders for home. Among the startups, we have observed a frequently re-
                                                                                                                                     curring theme — the startups, often enthusiasts themselves, are not satisfied with
                                                                                                                                     the functionality of existing grinders and therefore look into developing a grinder
                                                                                                                                     of their own, as a part of their contribution towards advancing the home coffee
                                                                                                                                     brewing scene.
