Malaysia Barista Championship 2015

The Malaysia Barista Championship was held in the
heart of Kuala Lumpur located at Chin Woo Stadium, from
the 23rd to 25th January 2015.
The competition witnessed 16 local baristas battle it
out to be crowned the next Malaysian Champion of 2015.
Throughout 3 days, the competition kicked off with a Ang Bo Ling Keith Koay Zizheng
line-up of workshops on the first day that featured some
of the best industry professionals from the sponsors of
the Championship such as Da Vinci Gourmet, Dankoff
Coffee Specialist, Coffex Coffee Malaysia, Dankoff Coffee
Academy and Barista Guild Asia.
As the event progressed into Day 2, the champion-
ships witnessed 16 outstanding presentations from the
competitors. The competitors were given 15 minutes to
prepare 12 drinks to the panel of judges that included
4 espressos, 4 cappucinnos and 4 signature drinks. The
panel of judges were headed by Joe Hsu (World Coffee
Events Representative) and 19 other professionals from Mel Leu Zhen Nan Tan Yaw Tzong
the industry.

The competition saw 6 finalist progressing into the
final stage on Day 3 and the competition results is as fol-
lows from 1st to 6th place.

As the 2013/2014 Malaysia Barista Champion, Jason Loo
from The Red Bean Bag Cafe managed to retain his title
as the Malaysian Barista Champion for 2015 and will
represent Malaysia in the World Barista Championships
this coming April in Seattle, United States of America.
