Café Kyamos
Hand-drip Specialty Coffee Shop
A city that is so close yet far from Seoul, Uijieongbu. Tall and small
buildings made café forest there. Only 6~7 years ago, café was hard to find
there. I want to introduce café “Kyamos” which is rooted deeply there in
a long time.
What attracted my eyes right after coming up the stairs was a roast-
ing machine that I could see over the window. That was not for interior but
the owner himself uses the machine for roasting. Going inside, harmony of
heavy black background and warm woods gives clean and stylish feeling.
After you sat down, a barista hands a wooden menu to you and
if you order something, the barista gives the menu to you with an order
sheet in a small bottle which makes you remind of “A letter in a glass
bottle” on the table. Opening the first page of the menu, you can see the
word hand-drip was written. Unlike other cafes of these days which sell
brewing and espresso, this café is hand-drip specialty shop which is rare
to see. Moreover, while most cafés in these days make customers to order
and bring the menu by themselves, this café is different with the service
which the barista comes to the customers and that gives deep impression.
After ordering the menu and I looked around the café till the menu comes,
it seemed traces of enthusiasm still left all over. The traces of effort to learn
during a personal visit to Japan left in small pictures of coffee cherries
which the owner brought from Vietnam, Kalita, Kono, Fuji Royal, and so
on that were brought from Japan. As he returned from Japan recently, he
showed me a picture that looks to be taken recently and told me the travel
story while he handed a cup of coffee to me.
