Meeting Dan Schonknecht in real
person for the first time in Melbourne was
like meeting an old friend. Like me, many
people know his work digitally through
his Instagram account @specht_design,
which currently has 38.6K followers.
Naturally, my first question to him came to
“so how long do you spend on Instagram
every day?”, the curiosity could not help it.
“Sometimes 3 – 4 hours for just one post,
and then another 2 hours before sleep
to catch up on other people’s posts”, he
laughed and answered.
Based in Melbourne, Dan was a
cabinet/furniture maker before he started
using his artisan skills on espresso ma-
chines, over a year ago. Now he has orders
from all over the world, and usually has
around 30 machines sitting in his garage Dan Schonknecht
every week, waiting to be customized. Foot-
prints of Dan’s timber works can be seen all
around Melbourne.
