Recently Colin Harmon released a book named “What I know About
Running Coffee Shops”, which already sounds intriguing, but if you know
who Colin actually is, the book will sound to you like a must-read. Colin
Harmon is a four-time Irish Barista Champion, podcaster, and owner of
Dublin’s 3fe Coffee, one of the world’s most innovative and progressive
specialty coffee shops. His work in coffee has extended to roasting, train-
ing and consultancy work, as well as developing coffee equipment for the
specialty market and beyond. But of course Colin was not born a coffee
professional, it took him a long way to understand what his true passion
is, so after quitting his perspective job in investing banking he decided to
become a coffee business owner and work for himself:
As soon as I began doing what I wanted to
do – running a café – I was happy.
In the book Colin does not give you a how-to manual, but instead he shares
his own experience from the very beginning, which is “Get a job”. It may sound like
a harsh truth, but reality is also harsh, so before opening your own coffee shop
