As we were staying in the old center we
started our café hopping from the neighborhood,
our first stop was Madal Café that is located at
Ferenciek tere, 3. The coffee shop got its name
from one of the most famous spiritual figures of
20th century, Sri Chinmoy, who advocated a
spiritual path to God through prayer, meditation
and athleticism including distance running, swim-
ming, and weightlifting.
Madal Cafe Espresso and Brew bar was
founded in May 2013 by Peter P. Repka and Alex-
ander G. Fulop, and one of the owners was a
student of Sri Chinmoy, whose childhood nick-
name was Madal. The place was one of the first
to bring specialty coffee culture to Hungary and
today they gather people not only for coffee but
also for poetic evenings, where guests are free to
share their feelings in lyrics. Their aim at Madal is to give a great coffee experience to the guests and to
establish a small island of peace in the whirl of the city where everybody is welcome.
In 4 years Madal Café has established 3 coffee shops in Budapest, their customers are different at every
shops: each location is special. Depending on the shop, they sell about 300 cups per day, where the most
popular drinks are cappuccino and lattes. Madal Café can also offer vegetarian sweets and some pastry, which
makes it a nice place for breakfast as the atmosphere there makes you feel calm and peaceful.
When you enter the coffee shop the first thing you see, except for La Marzocco coffee machine, is the
sign “Not what happens to you But how you accept it Is of paramount importance”, which already makes you
think not just about what kind of coffee you want right now. Interior highlights the use of natural materials-
mainly light-color wood-and high windows, that give wooden furniture and wooden tableware some kind of
honey glow. All together, Madal Cafe Espresso and Brew bar gives you this breeze of serenity while serving
you a good cup of coffee.
KONTAKT

8:00 – 19:00, Sat 9:00 – 17: 00, Sunday Closed Central
location
Opened in April 2014 by a couple, Kontakt became
the destination place from day one and since then the
main goal for owner is to create a coffee community. They
never wanted to please the crowd, but rather focus on the
smaller audience who takes coffee seriously, that is why
right after entering the place you will see “no sugar, no
americano, no milk in filter, yes good coffee”. Kontakt is
definitely not a crowd pleaser. Raising the bar, Kontakt’s
most popular drinks are not milky at all: filter and sum-
mer nitro cold brew. Specialty coffee spot sells around
200-250 cups per day.
