Back to the tea itself, the entire tea market boasts a varied
system and categories, as each production area and even each tea
mountain may have different standards for tea growing and pro-
duction. Proper Tea owns a sound foundation, and it’s an easy
task to get good tea, as every family grows and sells tea in Moun-
tain Wuyi where Wu Qiang grew up drinking tea and knows which
family makes good tea; On top of that, her cousin’s family has
been conducting tea business for generations. With good product
channels, the three girls have a set of strict and rich criteria in the
selection of products: Wu Qiong favors the clarity of the process;
Lv Jiaoyang is more concerned about pureness of the tea leaves,
specifically the ecological situation of the fresh leaves, the hygiene
of production process and the pure taste; and Yang Qinli prefers
to have characteristic and fun tea.
Since the opening, the three producers have heard phrases
like “the drink in Proper Tea tastes good, but I do not know what
is good”. They also hear some friends say that they just encoun-
tered Proper Tea when they started drinking tea, and they have
no idea how to identify the quality of tea here. So they decided
to “drink some bad tea” with guests. On May 6, the store invited
five guests to participate in a “tea party”, tasting four tea samples
below the standard of the three founders. “One sample is okay to
Wu Qiong, but Lv Jiaoyang called it not clean with the first sip.”
says Yang Qinli. At the end of the party, Wu invited everyone to
have a good tea. Accompanied by the sunset, they drank from
dawn to dark, enjoying a good time.
Compared to the trendy teahouses which mainly provide
“third space” to meet consumer demand, Proper Tea attracts
customers with just “a good sip of tea”. The store menu is domi-
nated by rock tea, black tea, white tea. As for the selection of tea,
according to the level, the cost-effective tea occupies more posi-
tions. On this basis, they select non-mainstream and cost-effective
tea to expand the selection. In addition, the old tea favored by
Wu Qiong and Yang Qinli is also a feature of the store. The store
will also sporadically bring in some categories with the highest
