Cold Brew Coffee without the Keg

With an uncommonly smooth and palatable flavor, the recent surge in the pop-
ularity of cold brew coffee is no surprise. In fact, recent studies show that cold brew
coffee consumers are willing to pay a premium price for their drink. Cold brew has
made an impression on consumers as more than just a growing staple drink. As the
popularity continues to rise, stores without cold brew offerings will continue to see
their customer base favor the ones that do.
Offering cold brew, however, is particularly challenging in high-volume, high-de-
mand situations. Given the complex method of preparing traditional cold brew coffee,
adding cold brew to a beverage bar can be a daunting task, especially if you want to
offer multiple flavors and milk options. To overcome the difficulty of offering tradi-
tional cold brew, keg-based dispense solutions are often considered. Between the cost
of freight for heavy kegs cutting into margins, high maintenance requirements and the
hassle of swapping out kegs, cold brew can often seem like it’s not worth the trouble.
Add in nitrogen tanks and generators, and the whole cold brew program can feel
downright impossible.
BUNN® tackled the cold brew problem in a whole new light, opting to remove
kegs from the process completely. Nitron® Cold Draft offers authentic, cold brew taste
and nitro-infused beverages without the need to store, sanitize or swap out kegs. In
terms of volume, a familiar, 7:1 one-gallon BIB concentrate (eight finished gallons) in
the Nitron can deliver nearly three times the amount of drinks than a 3-gallon keg.
The Nitron also features a simplified cleaning process and weighs just a fraction of the
keg system. The usual labor of lifting and managing kegs can now be focused on de-
veloping the best possible beverage bar experience as the lighter BIBs allow for an easy
swapping of drink offerings.
Gas supply was also addressed by the BUNN product development team and
engineering division who developed a Nitron Gas Module compatible with every
model of Nitron, eliminating the need for high-pressure nitrogen tanks and expensive
generators. This external accessory purifies the surrounding air and provides an un-
limited supply of gas for nitrogenated beverages. The result is a cascade of micro-bub-
bles - crowning beverages with a stout-like head that tastes distinctively creamy and
delivers a soft, velvety mouthfeel. For many cold brew drinkers, this creaminess re-
places the need for milk or sugar which simplifies your program even further.
It is also worthy to note the Nitron uses very little gas - and only when dispens-
ing Nitro beverages unlike kegs that use gas continually for charging the keg and dis-
pensing product. The application of the Gas Module is a lower-cost investment to the
nitro-infused beverage category. It offers lower cost-to-entry for serving Nitro bever-
ages, and payback for the investment is realized within a few weeks instead of months
or years with nitrogen generators.
When the performance of the Nitron machine and convenience of the gas mod-
ule are combined with other features, like additional options for removable, custom
door graphics, customizable, craft-style tap handles, and several connection options
for valve connections - Nitron becomes a complete system and comprehensive cold
brew program.
