a bit of both.” The cafe has such a wide cus-
tomer base, the team really prides themselves
on serving a lot of the local community. This
includes people who live and work in the area
as well as a lot of international tourists. By now
Monocle Cafes around the world became a
‘must see’ in their cities for everyone interest-
ed in current social and cultural affairs.
The London shop strives to be a physical
representation of the magazine, showing all
the curiosities of modern life. They play Mon-
ocle24 Radio and Film and have a supply of
daily newspapers to keep customers up to date
with current affairs and it is a wonderful meet-
ing place of like-minded people from all dif-
ferent backgrounds. Whether you’re an architect
or an entrepreneur, Monocle Café encourages
customers and staff of diverse backgrounds to
engage in discussion. Monocle Magazine host
events at Midori House and have their yearly
Quality of Life Conference, this year it is held
in Zurich. However, they chose to keep the
cafe as a casual setting for people from differ-
ent backgrounds to talk and share experiences,
keeping the very important social and interac-
tive role of a coffee shop.
