Monocle Magazine was founded by
Tyler Brûlé of Wallpaper* and Winkreative
branding agency in 2007. Following the suc-
cess of the magazine, the first Monocle Cafe
started in Hankyu Men’s store in Tokyo and
became so popular the company decided to
launch one closer to home in England. A
space opened up around the corner of the
magazine’s London HQ, Midori House, so it
was the great opportunity to take it. The cafe
is a small space so Monocle’s Design Director
worked closely with EDO Design and Con-
struction to build a bright and welcoming
space with a cosy feel. The flagship London
cafe started 5 years ago and since then, the
Monocle team has opened a Kioskafe, magazine
What makes Monocle Café special? and cafe concept, and this year, a Cafe and Shop
in Seefeld, Zurich.
A finely tuned balance of Being so closely related to the magazine,
design, great product and Monocle Café in London attracts people from
