        “Pali-pali” Culture and Coffee Mix
                                                An average South Korean drinks
            “Pali-pali” is a common South Korean   500 cups of coffee per year
        expression which means “Hurry up!” or “Fast-
        er!” Pali Pali culture is the result of the rapid
        rebuilding and industrialization of South Ko-
        rea after the Korean War. The recovery was
        supposed to take over 100 years, but has been
        miraculously fast: the conditions, comparing
        even to 40 years ago, are vastly different, and,
        in almost all cases, immensely improved.
        South Koreans were told: “If we work togeth-
        er, we can improve the country. But we have
        to hurry to be successful.”
            As a result of Pali Pali culture, Korea is no-
        torious for being one of the most fast-paced,
        stressful and high-pressure environments on the
