                    Pursuit of a Perfect Brew

                    Tourism Victoria and St Ali presents an exclusive coffee masterclass at Garage 51

                                                                   constantly exploring the boundaries in search of the perfect
                                                                   brew. Melbourne’s coffee culture has spread worldwide,
                                                                   prompting cafes as far afield as New York to name themselves
                                                                   after Melbourne streets. The same trend can be seen locally,
                                                                   with Malaysian cafes taking inspiration from Melbourne.
                                                                         As one of the main pioneers of specialty coffee in
                                                                   Melbourne, the St Ali family has grown from a flagship store
                                                                   tucked in an assuming laneway in North Melbourne to one
                                                                   of the most recognisable names in the Melbourne coffee
                                                                   industry. Matt Perger has a string of impressive awards under
                                                                   his belt, including champion at the 2012 World Brewer’s Cup
                                                                   and second place at the 2013 World Barista Championship.
                                                                         Over the course of 90 minutes, Matt educated the
                                                                   audience through a journey on the origin of coffee and give
                                                                   a quick crash course on the process of coffee from the tree
                                                                   to the cup. Attendees learnt about the differences of roasting
                                                                   profiles and how it affects the taste and enjoyment of a brew.
                                                                   Geared towards the audience who were interested to delve
                                                                   deeper into the world of coffee, Matt hopes that every
                                                                   attendee leave with a finer appreciation of coffee through
                                                                   his informative and interactive talks.

                    Global Coffee Forum

                    An international event open to all coffee-lovers.

                    30 September - 1 October 2015

                         There will be an important appointment in September at the Stella Polare conference centre of Rho-Fiera Milano for
                   the first international meeting on coffee open to all coffee lovers, promoted by ICO- International Coffee Organization. The
                   Global Coffee Forum, will be an important occasion for dialogue on the world of coffee and its virtues: pleasure, health and
                   sustainability. Two days of discussion (September 30 - October 1, 2015) will feature addresses by illustrious representatives
                   of industry, leaders of scientific and cultural communities and international guests, for a portrait of the coffee world with all
                   its successes, the challenges and opportunity for the future. “Coffee and global trends”, “Climate changes and production”,
                                                              “Coffee & Healthy Aging” are only a few significant themes of
                                                              discussion. Created as an occasion to increase knowledge about
                                                              coffee and to invite coffee lovers to learn more about the journey
                                                              of their favourite beverage from bean to cup, the Global Coffee
                                                              Forum will be a unique and global event. On October 1, 2015, the
                                                              Forum will also officially launch the first-ever “International Coffee
                                                              Day” promoted by ICO and supported by Oxfam for a fundraising
                                                              campaign to raise money for coffee farmers across the world.
