        ExpoEspeciales Café de Colombia

        5 - 8 October 2016, Corferias, Bogotá, Colombia



               Under the motto “Colombia, Land of Di-

        versity,” the 9  edition of ExpoEspeciales Café de
        Colombia closed with 13,809 national and foreign
        visitors.On a surface of over 3000 m2 and with over
        100 exhibitors in 7 pavilions of Corferias, in Bogotá,
        ExpoEspeciales Café de Colombia, as an excep-
        tional showcase and true meeting point between
        producers and buyers, continues consolidating
        itself as the most important specialty coffee expo
        in Latin America and the Caribbean.
               In this edition of the expo, which inte-
        grates the whole coffee chain from seed to cup
        (including producers, representatives of produc-
        ers, manufacturers and distributors of machinery
        and equipment, researchers, extensionists, roasters
        and traders), for the first time all the coffee depart-
        ments were represented, and a broad number of
        coffee farmers came from there.

               As main innovation for this 9 edition,
        the awards ceremony and auction of the first na-
        tional coffee quality competition “Colombia, Land
        of Diversity” took place. The coffee produced by
        José Anargel Rodriguez, from the municipality of
        Ibagué, Tolima , was the big winner of the compe-
        tition, as his coffee won both for the acidity and
        exoticness attributes. In the subsequent auction,
        his coffee achieved a record price of US$50.5 per
        pound.





















                                                  Great attendance and participation in championships
                                                         2 events of great tradition held within the framework of ExpoEspecia-
                                                  les, the Colombian Barista Championship and the National Cup Tasters Cham-
                                                                                th
                                                                          th
                                                  pionship (this year in their 11 and 6  edition, respectively), also attracted a
                                                  large number of attendees and fans.
                                                         Eduardo Armero, a coffee grower and cup taster from the Associa-
                                                  tion of Producers of La Unión (AsproUnión), is the new national cup tasters
                                                  champion and will represent Colombia in the next World Cup Tasters Cham-
                                                  pionship in Budapest, Hungary.
                                                         In the 11  Colombian Barista Championship, Diego Fernando Cam-
                                                                th
                                                  pos, of Amor Perfecto, was the winner and will represent Colombia at the
                                                  world championship to be held in Seoul, South Korea.
