to start a roasting operation, taking control of the
product into your own hands. This means benefiting
from the lower initial cost of green coffee and truly
creating your own product, but it comes with risks.
These risks can include loss of product, inconsistent
results, or potentially even a lower quality product.
Coffee Buying
If you want to start a roasting operation one of
the biggest steps is buying green coffee. While you
may be able to buy basic coffee from a lot of import-
ers, the high quality coffee that represents the Spe-
cialty industry is limited and requires some knowl-
