              MOROCCO (Average annual tea con-
              sumption per capita: 2.682 pounds)

In the 17th century, Chinese tea entered
∆Morocco through the Silk Road and was in-
troduced to the people by ibn Battuta. Morocco
is an Islamic country, its citizens are not al-
lowed to drink alcohol, plus their eating habits
include a lot of fats and lack vegetables, thus
mint green tea is highly popular. In Morocco,
annual tea consumption can go over 60,000
tons, all imported, 95% of them from China. As
a developing country, Morocco’s population is
growing fast, resulting in a continuous increase.
In 2011, the population was 32,270,000, with a
net growth of 3,480,000 people and the growth
rate at 12.1%. In Morocco, most of the families’
income was spent on drinking tea. The green tea
Moroccans drink is harvested in autumn. That
makes tea cheaper than in China and makes it
available to a bigger population no matter how
high is their income. Develop your successful tea brand with our unparalleled
