were paid to the designs and looks of the espresso machine, mak-
ing it increasingly more aesthetics. Soon the espresso machines
became an essential feature for every cafes.
The introduction of volumetric pump was first introduced
in 1962, it was firstly installed on FAEMA’s Tartaruga model in
1961. It brought up the pressure to 9 bar, which is an essential
level to deliver an excellent crema-rich espresso. They used an
electric pump to move cold water through a heat exchanger that
traversed the boiler to the group head. The heat exchanger was
designed to heat the water to the correct brewing temperature.
Since the group was no longer used to cool the water, it too had to
be held at the correct brewing temperature. This prototype made
its debut as the E61 or Eclissi 61, where the name has its origins
from the total sun eclipse which occurred in Italy that year. A heat
exchanger keeps the water to an ideal brewing temperature. With
its technical innovations, smaller size, versatility and streamlined
stainless steel design, the E61 was an immediate success and is
rightly included in the pantheon of the most influential coffee
          machines of history.
In the 1980s, the electronics and computer enable espresso
machines to deliver a perfect espresso almost without any work.
Espresso machines, without questions, became a symbol of cafe
          culture around the world.
