Juan Valdez Café’s Net Income Increased
®
Procafecol S.A., the company that manages the Juan Valdez Café brand and retail chain,
®
had an optimal financial performance in 2016’s first quarter. The positive results in terms of oper-
ating income, EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest Taxes Depreciation and Amortization), and net
income reflect the consolidation of the brand’s expansion strategy through all of its commercial
channels.
Between January and April 2016, Procafecol’s operating income increased 28% by reach-
ing a total of US$ 19 million. The company’s net income reached a total of US$ 586,764, entailing
an 82% increase compared to the US$ 323,028 registered during 2015’s first quarter.
Similarly, the company’s EBITDA reached US$2,46 million; three times as much as the
US$ 810,648 registered between January and April 2015. The share of cost of sales in Procafecol’s
operating income dropped from 39.8% in 2015’s first quarter to 37.1% in 2016. Likewise, the share
of expenses for operating activities in the company’s income declined 2.7% by going from 59.7%
in 2015’s first quarter, to 57% between January and April 2016.
The expansion strategy led by Procafecol, which has been one of the key stimulants of
the company’s growth, was strengthened during 2016’s first quarter. A total of ten new Juan
®
Valdez Café stores opened their doors to the public between January and April 2016. Three of
these stores are located in Colombia and seven are located abroad. By the end of March 2016, a
®
total of 347 Juan Valdez Cafés were operating worldwide (232 in Colombia and 115 abroad).

The Coffee Man Film featuring Sasa Sestic premiered here in Up-
percase Bangsar on the 21st of May, jointly organized together with their
Malaysian counterparts Cloud Catcher Roastery. The premiere screening
was graced by the presence of the 2015 World Barista Champion, Sasa Sestic
and the two producers Jeff Hann & Roland Fraval.
Kicking off with a casual free and easy networking session, the
crowd slowly wandered into the venue to enjoy brews from The Roast
Things, Brewmen’s Nitro Coffee and the event was even sponsored by the
likes of Pulp by Papa Palheta, Dankoff Coffee Specialist and endorsed by the
Malaysia Specialty Coffee Association.
Several other generous sponsors provided assistance for the silent
charity bidding, that was launched a couple of weeks earlier, and managed
to raise a substantial amount for the Chapola Project to improve producers
conditions in Honduras. Some of the items sponsored and was up for bidding
included VST Refractometers, Kalita Brewing Equipments, Chemex Brewers,
Acaia Scales, Coffee Books, OCD by Sasa Sestic & Ona Coffee and many more.
