Journeys define us. They shape our ideas and perspectives, take us to new places, and remind
us of our own place in the world. Coffee, tea and ice cream are always great companions for a travel-
er, providing an enjoyable moment of respite and a chance to take a break from the hustle and bustle
of our destinations. From cramped plane cabins to bustling city streets and the quiet solitude of remote
trails, they can be a source of comfort. They can be a medium to connect with new people, cultures
and ideas. More than that, they are a way to connect with ourselves.
This issue of the magazine is dedicated to those on the road, and we’ve rounded up some great
stories from around the world for you.
Our cover story explores the modern-day Tower of Babel in specialty coffee: language barri-
ers. Working in specialty coffee is inextricably linked with being on the road and language shapes
how we communicate and interact with each other.
