“WE PRINT GOOD STUFF ABOUT COFFEE.” FROM THE EDITORS

Where did 2021 go? Look up and suddenly it’s Q4. As we move into the

last season of the year and as the tempo of life starts to slow down it feels
only natural to take this moment and reflect on all that we’ve experienced these
past 12 months. 2021 was the year after a year of change. For ages, humans
have learned to adapt to our surroundings in order to move forward after we

encounter events that disrupt normalcy. We’re social beings, and when this
happens, we often find solace first within our communities. When we feel safe,
we thrive. In this way, our species acquired the skill to create meaningful friend-
ships with each other through our setting, which often includes the environment,

the animals we choose to have by our sides, the languages we do or do not
speak, and more. In this issue, we discuss the numerous ways in which coffee,
tea and ice cream provide moments of connection with the world around us.
We dig into how big brands are committing to responsible practices that ensure

a long-lasting future for coffee production. We identify ways in which the in-
dustry accepts people of varying coffee knowledge levels (whether you’re a
