Dilmah School of Tea, Sri Lanka
10 - 14 May 2016
Founded in 2009, the Dilmah School of Tea is an ex-
perience like no other. In the words of the Founder, “how do
you learn about tea if you do not travel to the plantations and
learn from the source?”. The School of Tea that is organized by
Dilmah, was the brainchild of the Director of Dilmah, Dilhan J.
Fernando, which has inspired so many participants throughout
the last couple of years.
In the span of just 7 years, the 43rd edition of the
School of Tea took place again in the home of Ceylon’s finest,
in the land of Sri Lanka. The participants were treated to visits
to the Merrill J. Fernando Charitable Foundation, the newly re-
furbished Dilmah Tea Lounges in Chatham Square and Arcade
Independence Square, and also the Factory Tour, where partici-
pants were able to witness first hand on the what goes on in the
packaging production line for Dilmah.
With a promise towards quality, School of Tea students
were taken on a ride across Sri Lanka by train, through the sce-
nic views of the landscaped plantations that took about 6 hours
to reach the infamous Nuwara Eliya.
As the participants arrived at the station, the partici-
pants were moved in groups to Park Estate, Dilmah’s first ever
Green Tea production factory. The research and development
team of Dilmah explained the processes of steaming the tea
thoroughly and also shared on the different grading of tea.
