Competition
Monin Cup Student 2016
Berjaya University College of Hospitality

The Monin Cup 2016, Student Edition took place in
Berjaya University College of Hospitality on the 28th of May,
from 10am to 5pm to feature the art of mixology amongst
hospitality students. This inaugural competition first began in
2009, originally formed for the students of Taylor’s University
here in Malaysia. The competition was then opened up to other
participating universities and colleges in Malaysia the following
year in 2010.
2016 witnessed 5 participating universities such as Inti
International College, Berjaya University College of Hospitality,
KDU University College, Taylor’s University and Help Univer-
sity College, the competition aimed to feature skills, innovation
and creativity at its best together with MONIN Ingredients.
Building a platform for aspiring bartenders in the Food & Bev-
erage scene, the competition featured two categories in both
Mocktail and Cocktail.
With an impressive judging line-up of industry profes-
sionals such as Karl Too & Shawn Chong from Omakase & Ap-
preciate, Arsenio Mariano from the Vault, Kim Choong from the
renowned Thirst Magazine, CK Kho from Coley’s and Joshua
Ivanovic from Cocktail Solutions, the students were definitely
assessed closely with their concoctions. Technical skills were
also evaluated by the two Beverage Innovation Directors of
MONIN, Juno Yong & Jason Soon.
Kane Chua Wai Kiat from Taylor’s University walked
away with the Champions title for the Cocktail Category, which
his winning recipe of an Asian Rum Punch. Over on the Mock-
tail Category, Phang Shee Zhe from Berjaya University walked
away victorious with his concoction, themed Wuyi’s Dream.
