Malaysia Siphon Championship 2016

Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre

The first ever Malaysia Siphon Championship recently
took place in conjunction with the Malaysia International Food
and Beverage Exhibition at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre
on the 27th of July 2016. The Malaysia Specialty Coffee Associa-
tion, together with Barista Guild Asia co-organized the champi-
onships during the exhibition.

Despite the small number of competitors, the champi-
onship proceeded as planned according to schedule. The first
ever championship saw a total of 5 competitors participating to
compete to be the second Malaysian to represent the nation at the
World Siphonist Championships in Japan.

A prestigious panel of judges from the recent World Siphonist
Judges certification took the lead in the judging panel and a champion was
crowned by the end of the day. Regine Wai Yee Beng, the 2015 Malaysia
Brewers Cup Champion from Café in a Box took home the grand prize to
represent her country again, but this time in the World Siphonist Cham-
pionship. Marland from ThirdWave placed second and Junqi Gan from
The Bold Lab and The Missing Socks Café placed third.
